From Drowned Rat to Beach Brat: The Ultimate Jamaican Excursion

Dunn’s River Falls & Bamboo Beach Club – A Jamaican Adventure You’ll Never Forget

We absolutely LOVED this excursion package. If you’re looking for something that mixes adventure with laid-back beach vibes, this is it.

Let’s start with Dunn’s River Falls. It’s listed as intermediate, but let me translate that into real-life terms: You will not just get wet. You will not be “a little damp.” You will look like a drowned rat… and you will love every second of it!!

You climb straight UP through rushing waterfalls, natural pools, and slick rock steps while the water crashes all around you. It’s thrilling, a bit challenging, and absolutely breathtaking. This is one of those experiences where you feel alive, get soaked to the bone, and are  ridiculously proud of yourself at the top.

Pro tip of the century:
Bring a waterproof bag and a waterproof phone case. Not optional. Mandatory. Unless you enjoy the idea of donating your phone to the Water Gods.

You’ll want photos and videos because the views are unreal, and trust me, the action shots are fantastic. Even better, the excursion includes a professional photographer for your climb, so you get epic memories without risking your phone’s life. And all of this for about $40 for everything! a steal. Our guides, Orville and Rohan, were absolute rockstars. Fun, patient, encouraging, and laser-focused on safety, they made sure everyone felt confident while keeping the energy high. They even saved my daughter as she tried to defy gravity~HAHA! They joked, coached, cheered us on, and somehow made climbing a waterfall feel like the coolest group activity on Earth. If you’re visiting Jamaica, do not skip Dunn’s River Falls. It’s exhilarating, beautiful, and 100 percent worth the climb.

After conquering the falls, we headed to Bamboo Beach Club, which was the perfect way to shift gears from an adrenaline high to a relaxing ahhhhhh. The beach is small, private, and peaceful, ideal for a more relaxed, uncrowded vibe. It’s a little rocky in spots, but still a gorgeous place to unwind, grab some food, dip your toes in the water, grab a fresh cut coconut for its milk and soak up the island energy.

And the food? Outstanding.

We were treated to a delicious spread that included jerk chicken, seasoned rice, coleslaw, a pickled beet salad, warm breadsticks, and a sweet little fried banana dessert that felt like the perfect tropical finale. Everything was paired with a refreshing rum punch, and then our guide took it up a notch by showing us how to make a special rum shot with rum and a piña colada–style cream.

Educational? Maybe not. Memorable? Absolutely.

Even though we were visiting just after Hurricane Melissa, you would never have known it from the experience. The team had everything ready, the atmosphere was lively, and all the “touristy” touches were in place, from photo ops to food service. It was clear how much effort went into making sure guests still had an amazing day despite recent challenges.

Both locations  also a small gift shops on site, perfect for grabbing a souvenir or two. I should mention that at the falls as you head back toward the bus, you’ll pass a few hard-sell huts, but a polite “No thank you” worked just fine and we were on our way with no pressure.

The bus did make a stop at a market that had an abundance of “Jamaica” souvenirs. Plenty of time to shop (note they make deals… Don’t pay full price!) Don’t pass on the coffee~ Rich, bold and full of flavor!

All in all, this combo excursion was the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. You get the thrill of climbing one of Jamaica’s most iconic natural landmarks, followed by the chill vibes of a beach club afternoon with great food and even better memories.

Highly recommend. Just don’t forget the waterproof bag… unless you want your phone to go on its own Jamaican vacation.
