A Weekend Under the Stars: The Perfect Hocking Hills Getaway
Hocking Hills Bobcat Ridge:
There are getaways… and then there are the ones that quietly reset your soul without you even realizing it. This Hocking Hills stay at Bobcat Ridge delivered exactly that. It was peaceful, playful, and layered with just enough unexpected charm to make it unforgettable.
We booked this property for a couples’ weekend, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like we had stumbled into our own private retreat tucked into the trees. The Stay: Comfort Meets Character
The home is thoughtfully designed for both connection and space whether it’s family or friends who join you. That’s something that’s surprisingly hard to find. It had bedrooms spread across three separate levels, everyone had their own little sanctuary. One of the rooms is a loft-style setup that still feels nicely tucked away, creating a cozy, semi-private hideout. There’s 1 bedroom on the main & a 3rd on the lower level (basement). This split design generates the ability to retreat if needed.
The kitchen is fully stocked with necessities and ready for anything from morning coffee rituals (standard coffee pot & Keurig options) to full group dinners. The table was able to accommodate a group of 8 adults & there was other seating available. Everything you need is there, which made it easy to settle in and actually enjoy the weekend without running out for forgotten essentials.
Then… There was the hot tub. Although I didn't get a good picture of it, It was clean, relaxing, and perfectly placed for unwinding after a day of exploring. Even better were the hot tub towels provided (a small detail that makes a big difference when you’re in full relaxation mode).
Where the Fun Lives:
Downstairs is where the house really shows off.
A cozy TV room sets the tone for winding down, but the real MVP? The round game table~complete with a built-in lazy Susan that made board games hilariously efficient and slightly more competitive. There was a small selection of games already stocked at the house & we brought a couple. It was an instant game night setup… just add beverages!
Then… the showstopper. PAC-MAN.
Yes. Actual, playable PAC-MAN arcade game! As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a golf arcade game. It’s the kind of unexpected touch that takes a stay from “nice” to memorable.
For families, there’s also an adorable little playhouse filled with activities for kids. It’s thoughtful, charming, and perfectly tucked into the experience. Additionally one of the rooms has an actual toddler bed for your little one!
Nature’s Grand Finale:
The views from this property are stunning in every direction, but the real magic happens at night. The sky opens up into a blanket of stars so clear it feels almost unreal. It’s like an astronomer’s dream without the telescope.
The beautiful deck brought coffee and early mornings watching the deer graze! And just when we thought the weekend couldn’t get more peaceful, we ended our stay listening to rain softly hitting the tin roof… the kind of moment you wish you could bottle.
Local Gem: Jack Pine Studio 🎃
A short drive away, we discovered one of the most unique stops of the trip. The Jack Pine Studio. This place is pure blown artistry.
They’re best known for their hand-blown glass pumpkins, and once you see them, you’ll understand why. Each one is completely unique, with rich, layered colors that seem to glow from within. It’s like fall decided to become colorful permanent décor. But the real jaw-drop moment? An anatomical glass heart that was equal parts beautiful and mind-blowing. The detail, the color, the craftsmanship; it’s one of those pieces you keep circling back to because your brain can’t quite process how it was made.
The entire studio feels like stepping into a creative firestorm. The molten glass turned into something delicate, intricate, and completely one-of-a-kind. Even if you don’t plan to buy anything… you probably will. They were holding “class” while we were there and it was neat to watch the instruction. Something that would make a great date night adventure.
Amish Shops & Markets
We also spent time exploring the nearby Amish-style shops, and it was the perfect contrast to the modern rush of everyday life.
These spots feel like stepping into a simpler, slower world, one filled with homemade jams, fresh-baked goods, cheeses, candies, and handcrafted everything. It’s the kind of place where you go in for “just a quick stop” and leave with bags full of things you didn’t plan on buying. Beyond the food, the craftsmanship stands out. From furniture and décor, to goods made with care and durability you can feel. We mustn’t forget the BOOTS! Of course, I bought TWO pair! It’s not just shopping, it was an experience.
The Host Experience
Dustin, the host, was exceptional from start to finish. Communication was clear, timely, and genuinely helpful. Everything you want when booking a stay like this.
Final Thoughts:
This property strikes that rare balance between peaceful escape and built-in entertainment.
